Quantifying expressions (most people, many, a lot of, tend to)B1+
most + 名词复数 / many + 可数名词复数 / a lot of + 可数或不可数名词 / tend to + 动词原形
写作和口语中用 most people / many people 等能显得观点不那么绝对,比说 'everyone' 更准确。

Most people use their phones for more than just calls.
Young people tend to spend a lot of time on social media.

Reading opinion note

Are We Too Attached to Our Phones?
Almost everyone owns a smartphone today, and many people find it difficult to imagine life without one. On the one hand, these devices bring huge benefits. They allow us to keep in touch with friends and family instantly, whether by text or video call. We can also access information, use maps, pay bills, and even work from anywhere. It is clear that phones save time and make many tasks easier. On the other hand, there is a growing worry that we are becoming too dependent on our phones. A lot of people check their devices as soon as they wake up, and they continue to scroll throughout the day. This habit can reduce face-to-face interaction and even harm relationships. In addition, constant notifications from apps cause distraction, making it hard to focus on important tasks. Some studies suggest that heavy phone use can affect sleep and mental health. So, while phones offer convenience and connectivity, they also come with significant drawbacks. It is up to each person to find a healthy balance.

Host
Good afternoon, and welcome to Tech Today. This week, we're looking at a new survey on how Americans use their mobile phones. The results might surprise you.
Host
First, the survey found that the average person checks their phone 80 times a day. That's more than once every 15 minutes! Most people check their phone within five minutes of waking up. In fact, over 60 percent of participants said they look at their phone before they even get out of bed.
Host
When it comes to internet use, about three hours a day is spent online on the phone. The most popular activity is social media, followed by texting and reading news. Phone calls are now only the fifth most common use, which shows how much our habits have changed.
Host
The survey also asked people about the downsides. Nearly half of the participants said their phone distracts them from work or study. Many admitted that they waste too much time scrolling through apps, which makes them feel less productive. In addition, 40 percent said that phone use had caused arguments with family or partners.
Host
So, what can we do? Experts suggest turning off unnecessary notifications and keeping the phone out of the bedroom at night. Small changes like these can make a real difference.
gap_fill1.The survey found that the average person checks their phone ___ times a day.
✅ 80 — 原文明确说 '80 times a day'。
gap_fill2.Over 60% of participants look at their phone before they ___.
✅ get out of bed — 原文 'before they even get out of bed'。
MCQ3.What is the most popular activity on phones according to the survey?
  • A Texting
  • B Reading news
  • C Social media
✅ C — 原文 'The most popular activity is social media'。
gap_fill4.Nearly half of the participants said their phone distracts them from ___.
✅ work or study — 原文 'distracts them from work or study'。

Some people think that mobile phones have made our lives better. Others believe they have created more problems than they solve. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Mobile phones have become an essential part of modern life, but there is a debate about whether they bring more advantages or disadvantages. In this essay, I will discuss both sides and give my opinion. On the one hand, phones have made communication much easier. People can keep in touch with friends and family at any time, even if they are far away. They also provide access to information and services, such as online banking, maps and emails, which saves both time and money. For example, many people rely on their phones to check the news, pay bills and do their shopping. Therefore, it is clear that phones offer great convenience. On the other hand, phones can cause a number of problems. Most people tend to spend too many hours on their devices, which can lead to addiction and waste of time. Social media apps, in particular, are highly addictive and often distract people from their work or studies. Some research suggests that using a phone before bed can affect sleep quality, which then has a negative impact on health. Moreover, people now spend less time in face-to-face communication, which can damage relationships. In my opinion, mobile phones are very useful, but we need to control our use. The benefits of instant communication and access to information are too important to ignore. However, if we are not careful, the disadvantages can become serious. Therefore, I believe that phones are a positive invention overall, as long as we use them sensibly.

任务“Mobile phones have become an essential part of modern life, but there is a debate...”
词汇“People can keep in touch with friends and family at any time, even if they are far away.”
衔接“Therefore, it is clear that phones offer great convenience.”
语法“Most people tend to spend too many hours on their devices, which can lead to addiction...”量化表达 'most people tend to' 加 which 非限定从句,体现 B1+ 句法。
语法“as long as we use them sensibly”条件状语从句,表达限定条件,增加句子复杂度。

Speaking

Part 1

Q: How often do you use your mobile phone?
I use it every day, probably more than I should. I check it first thing in the morning and then many times throughout the day for messages, social media, and news.
💡 用 everyday, check it first thing 等真实表达,自然回答。
Q: What do you usually do on your phone?
Mainly I use it for communication – texting friends and calling my family. I also spend some time on social media and sometimes watch short videos. Oh, and I use the map app a lot when I go out.
💡 用 'Mainly I use it for...'

Part 2 ·

Describe a time when you could not use your mobile phone. You should say: when it happened; why you could not use it; how you felt about it; and explain what you did instead.
Well, about two months ago my phone ran out of battery while I was on a train. I was on my way to visit a friend in another city, and I had been using the map app, so the battery died quite fast. At first, I felt a bit anxious because I couldn't check the route or let my friend know my arrival time. However, after a few minutes, I started to look out of the window and enjoy the view. Then I talked to the person sitting next to me, which was actually quite nice. When I arrived, I asked someone for directions and eventually found my friend's house. Looking back, it was actually a good experience because it reminded me that I don't always need my phone.

Part 3

Q: Do you think people depend too much on mobile phones nowadays?
Yes, I think many people rely on their phones too much. For example, some cannot even go out without checking the map or reading reviews. It is convenient, but I believe it is healthier to sometimes disconnect and just enjoy the moment.
Q: How might future technology change the way we communicate?
I imagine that more wearable devices will become common, so maybe we will talk less through typing and more through voice or video. Artificial intelligence could also translate languages in real time, which would make communication even easier across borders.

on the one hand / on the other hand引出对比观点

5.5档议论文重点:用 on the one hand / on the other hand 结构讨论双方,最后给出观点。

从5.5到6.5:①每个主体段确保有主题句+解释+例子;②灵活使用 therefore, so, as a result 连接因果;③用 most/many/tend to 代替 every/all;④主动加入一个关系从句(who/which/that)加强表达。
