The passive voiceB2
be + 过去分词 (+ by ...)
The suggestion was made by several staff members. / The opening hours will be extended next month.

New safety rules have been introduced this month.
Employees are encouraged to work from home twice a week.

✗ The report was wrote by the manager.✓ The report was written by the manager.
(It is widely believed that... / It has been argued that...)。
Second conditional (unreal present)B2
If + 过去式, 主语 + would/could + 动词原形
If the library extended its hours, more people would use it.

If I had more free time, I would take an online course.
Productivity would improve if workers were given more control over their schedule.

✗ If I would have more time, I would travel.✓ If I had more time, I would travel.
(If they had planned better, they would not be in this situation now)。

Remote Working Trial Report and Follow-up Email
Internal Report: Remote Working Trial (Summary) A six-month trial of remote working was carried out in the IT department. The aim was to see whether allowing staff to work from home twice a week would affect productivity and morale. Key findings: - Productivity remained stable overall. Some staff reported being able to concentrate better at home, while others found they missed office interaction. - Team communication was maintained through daily online meetings, but several team leaders noted that solving complex problems often took longer without face-to-face discussion. - Staff satisfaction increased by 15%, mainly due to the reduction in commuting time. - The main challenge was the lack of clear boundaries between work and personal life; some employees felt they were always 'on call'. The report suggests that remote working can be successful if combined with regular office days. A final decision will be made by the management committee next month. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From: Sarah Bennett, HR Director To: All Staff Subject: Update on Remote Working Dear colleagues, Thank you to everyone who took part in the remote working trial. The report has been completed, and I am pleased to say that the results are mostly positive. While there are some challenges, it is clear that working from home can benefit both staff and the company. Based on the feedback, we are proposing a long-term flexible working policy. This would allow employees to work from home up to two days a week, but at least three days must be spent in the office. This balance should help us retain the advantages of remote working while ensuring effective teamwork. We would like to hear your thoughts on this proposal before it is finalised. Please send any comments to your line manager by Friday 15th. Best regards, Sarah Bennett

You have recently noticed that the library in your town has very short opening hours. Write a letter to the head librarian. In your letter: - introduce yourself - suggest that the opening hours should be extended and explain why - say how this improvement would benefit the community
Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing as a regular user of the Springfield Public Library to suggest that the opening hours be extended. I have noticed that the library currently closes at 5 p.m. on weekdays and remains closed all weekend. I believe that longer hours would greatly benefit the community. At present, many people are unable to use the library because the hours conflict with typical working and school schedules. If the library stayed open until 8 p.m. on at least two weekdays and opened for a few hours on Saturdays, far more residents would be able to access its services. This change would be particularly helpful for students who need a quiet place to study and for employees who cannot visit during the day. Furthermore, extended hours would encourage more people to take advantage of the library's resources, such as free internet and educational programmes. The library could become a more inclusive space, and as a result, the whole community would be strengthened. I hope you will consider my suggestion. I look forward to your response. Yours faithfully, Sam Williams

语法“If the library stayed open until 8 p.m.... far more residents would be able to access...”
词汇“This change would be particularly helpful...”
衔接“Furthermore, ... and as a result, ...”
词汇“The library could become a more inclusive space”使用 inclusive 一词,B2水平,表达社区包容性,贴切。

If the library were to extend...。

口语 Speaking

Part 1

Q: Do you work or are you a student?
I'm currently working as a marketing assistant. It's a full-time role, and I've been there for almost a year. I find it quite challenging but enjoyable.
Q: What do you usually do after work or study?
I usually go to the gym if I have the energy. On days when I'm tired, I just like to relax at home, maybe read a book or watch a series.

Part 2 ·

Describe an important decision you made recently. You should say: - what the decision was - why you made it - who helped you make it - and explain how you felt about it later.
A recent important decision I made was to join a public speaking course. I had always been quite nervous about speaking in front of groups, and it was affecting my work because I often had to present ideas in meetings. I decided I needed to overcome this fear, so I looked for a course and found one that fitted my schedule. My best friend helped me choose it; she had similar experience and recommended this particular programme. I was quite anxious before the first session, but after a few weeks I started feeling much more confident. Now, I'm really glad I made that decision. It has not only improved my presentation skills but also made me more self-assured in other social situations.

Part 3

Q: Do you think people usually make good decisions on their own?
It depends on the person and the situation. Some people are very decisive and trust their own judgement. However, I think for difficult choices, it's often better to ask for advice, because others might see things you haven't considered.
Q: Why do some people find it hard to make decisions?
There could be several reasons. Some people are afraid of making the wrong choice, so they feel anxious. Others might have too many options, which can be confusing. Also, if a decision affects others, the pressure can be greater.

I decided I needed to...
I'm really glad I did that.
It depends on the situation.
