Linking words for opinions (however, moreover, for example)B1

Railways are expensive to build. However, they are more eco-friendly.
Roads allow door-to-door travel. Moreover, they are essential for rural areas.
Public transport can reduce pollution. For example, a bus produces much less CO2 per passenger than a car.

✗ Roads are important, however I think railways are better.✓ Roads are important. However, I think railways are better.
Opinion paragraph structure (topic sentence + supporting sentences)B1+

I believe that railways should receive more funding. Firstly, trains are more environmentally friendly than cars. They emit far less pollution per passenger. For example, a single train can replace hundreds of cars on the road, which reduces carbon emissions significantly. Therefore, investing in railways is a step towards a greener future.

✗ Writing a paragraph with too many different ideas.✓ Stick to one main idea per paragraph.

City Life vs Countryside Life
Living in the city or the countryside? This is a question that many people ask themselves. Cities have a lot to offer. There are more job opportunities, which is a big advantage for young people. Also, public transport in cities is usually better, so you do not need a car. On the other hand, life in the city can be very expensive. The cost of housing is high, and many people feel stressed because of the noise and crowds. The countryside offers a more relaxed way of life. The air is cleaner, and there is more space. However, finding a good job can be difficult. Public services, like hospitals and schools, may also be far away. So each option has its good and bad points. In conclusion, the best choice depends on what is important to you. If you value career and entertainment, the city is better. If you prefer peace and fresh air, the countryside is ideal.
job opportunities就业机会public transport公共交通relaxed way of life悠闲的生活方式

听力 Listening Section 3 · US

(Section 3)

Man
Hey, I read an article about banning adverts aimed at children. What do you think?
Woman
I'm not sure. On the one hand, I understand why people worry. Children don't really understand that adverts are trying to sell them things.
Man
Right, and some adverts encourage unhealthy habits, like eating too much sugar.
Woman
Exactly. But on the other hand, advertising is a way for companies to tell people about their products. If we ban it, smaller businesses might suffer.
Man
That's true. However, children's health should come first, shouldn't it?
Woman
I agree, but there could be other solutions, like teaching children about advertising in schools.
Man
That's a good idea. Then they can learn to be more critical about what they see.
Woman
Yeah, education might be better than a total ban.
MCQ1.What is the main topic of the conversation?
  • A. Adverts for food
  • B. Banning adverts aimed at children
  • C. Teaching children about business
gap_fill2.The man says children don't understand that adverts are trying to ___ them things.
✅ sell — 原文为「adverts are trying to sell them things」。
TFNG3.The woman thinks a total ban is the only solution.
✅ FALSE — 女方提议教育也是一种解决办法,最后说「education might be better than a total ban」。
gap_fill4.The woman suggests teaching children about advertising in ___.
✅ schools — 原文为「teaching children about advertising in schools」。

Some people say that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others, however, say that this would have little effect on public health and other measures are required. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Many people debate whether governments should invest more in railway systems or in roads. While I agree that railways have important benefits, I believe that both types of transport deserve government support. On the one hand, railways are efficient and environmentally friendly. Trains can carry a large number of passengers at once, which helps reduce traffic jams, especially in big cities. For example, cities like Tokyo and London rely heavily on their railway networks to move millions of people every day. In addition, trains produce less pollution per person compared to cars or buses. Therefore, funding railways can lead to cleaner air and less congestion, which is why many people support this view. On the other hand, roads are essential for many communities. Not everyone lives near a railway station; in rural areas, people depend on roads for their daily travel. Moreover, businesses use roads to transport goods, so poor road conditions can harm the economy. For instance, if delivery trucks face long delays, the cost of products may increase. Thus, ignoring roads would create serious problems. In my opinion, the best approach is a balanced one. Governments should not choose one over the other but should invest in both railways and roads according to the specific needs of each area. A well-developed transportation system includes both trains and cars. In conclusion, while railways have clear advantages for the environment and urban mobility, roads remain vital for rural access and business. A combination of investment in both will benefit society the most.

口语 Speaking

Part 1

Q: Do you often express your opinion to others?
Yes, I think it's important to share my views, especially when it's something I care about. However, I try to listen to what others say first.
Q: Do you find it easy to give your opinion in a group?
It depends on the group. With close friends, I feel comfortable, but in larger groups or with strangers, I sometimes feel a bit shy.
Q: Have you ever changed your opinion after discussing with someone?
Yes, I have. Once I thought that studying abroad was always the best option, but after talking to my friend who studied overseas and faced many challenges, I realised it's not always easy. So I now think we should consider the person's situation.

Part 2 ·

Describe a time when you had to give your opinion in a discussion or argument. You should say: what the topic was, who you talked to, what opinion you gave, and explain how the other person reacted.
I remember a discussion I had with my colleague about whether companies should allow employees to work from home. This was about a year ago. I believed that working from home was better because it saves commuting time and allows for a more flexible schedule. I gave examples of people who were more productive at home. My colleague disagreed, saying that working in an office helps teamwork and communication. We had a lively debate, but in the end, we agreed that a mix of both might be the best solution. The other person respected my opinion even though they didn't fully agree with it. It was a good experience because it made me think more carefully about the advantages of office work.

Part 3

Q: Why is it important to listen to other people's opinions?
Listening to others is important because it helps us understand different perspectives. Nobody knows everything, so by listening, we can learn new things and maybe change our minds if we hear a better argument. Also, it shows respect, which makes conversations more productive.
💡 给出两个理由并使用 'so', 'also', 'which' 等连接手段。
Q: How can people learn to express their opinions more effectively?
I think practice is key. Joining discussion groups or even talking to friends about serious topics can help. Also, learning some useful phrases like 'In my opinion' or 'From my point of view' can make your speech clearer. Watching debates can also teach you how to structure an argument.
💡 用 'I think', 'also', 'like' 等组织想法,举出具体例子。

In my opinion
From my point of view与 'In my opinion' 类似,强调个人视角
On the one hand... on the other hand

在写作 Task 2 中,确保每个主体段有一个明确的观点,并用 'On the one hand'/'On the other hand' 来分隔不同观点。使用连接词如 'However', 'Moreover', 'For example' 来连接想法。
